The ingredients you will need are...



    • 1 pound ground beef
    • 1 large white onion diced
    • 5 cloves minced garlic
    • 1 (28 ounce can) crushed tomatoes
    • 2 (6 ounce cans) tomato paste
    • 1 (15 ounce can) tomato sauce passata or tomato puree
    • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
    • 1/2 cup chopped fresh basil
    • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
    • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
    • 1 pound lasagna pasta
    • 30 ounces ricotta cheese
    • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
    • 1 large egg
    • 1/2 teaspoon salt
    • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    • 1 pound thinly sliced mozzarella cheese 
    • 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

    First in a large pot over medium heat add 1 pound of ground beef. Use a spoon to break it into pieces. Add  the onion and garlic until it starts to brown while stirring constantly. Stir in the sugar, fresh basil, oregano, 1/2 teaspoon salt, pepper, and 1/4 cup chopped parsley. Pour in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste and tomato sauce. Stir it nicely and bring it to a simmer over low heat.(1-4 hours while stirring occasionally)

    While waiting add your lasagna pasta in to a pan, pour hot water directly on top of the noodles.(make sure the pasta is immerged in water) Once done you will let it soak for 30 minutes then drain and get rid of the water.

    In a mixing bowl, add ricotta cheese and egg with the remaining 2 tablespoons of  parsley along with 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and nutmeg. Refrigerate until ready to assemble the lasagna.

    Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Lightly grease a lasagna pan or a deep dish.

    To assemble the lasagna spread 1 cup of meat in the pan. Spread about enough to cover the bottom. Place 4 lasagna sheets on top and spread 1 third of the ricotta cheese mixture on top of the pasta. Top it with 1/4 of the mozzarella cheese. Spoon 1 and a half cups of meat sauce over mozzarella, then sprinkle with 1/4 cup parmesan cheese. 

    Repeat the process 2-3 times with pasta, ricotta, mozzarella, meat sauce, then parmesan cheese, completing 3 layers

    To finish, place a final layer of pasta sheets. Then spread 1 cup of meat sauce to cover the pasta and keep it from drying out. Top with remaining mozzarella slices and the remaining parmesan cheese.

    Finally cover the pan with aluminum foil but not tightly. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake it for another 25 minutes.
